Much of our lives is spent in sleeping during which we often dream and relieve the past, embellished now with the frills that were never there, for our every lives are often humdrum, never enriched with excitement, with the adrenalin of terror and even if there was terror, it does not surface in dreams as much as it should, for the mind can also be kind and does not blot out those episodes of our existence that we want blotted out in our consciousness

is alanis morisette still recording albums? i was one of those millions of angstful(and zits infested) teeners rocked by her jagged little pill debut album. here is a woman who talks about the anxieties, sorrows, griefs, ires, and disappoinments of the so called gen x'ers. hearing her belt out her tunes is like feeling the same pain, lingering the same agony and uncovering the same despair. no other female singer had so much cerebral and emotional effect on me. though i came from a perfectly normal family, i got most of my angst from various artists that i look up to : those wackodackos eraser heads, the queen of intellectual bitchiness jessica zafra, bob marley's psychologically and electrifying beats, sting's let-me-hit-your-soul poetic lyrics and u2; the gods of all rock gods.
years ago, dunno the exact date, my mother unearthed my before-meme reading materials : adolf hitler's mein kampf, mao's little red book ( which i borrowed from my uncle) and this black book entitled ' Is Satan Alive?'.
imagine the horror in her face when she was scolding me. 'what's the fuss nanay?' i bravely told her.' those are only reading materials.'

Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 (time magazine)
Under siege from both sides of his government and desperate to prop up Israelis' sagging morale, Ariel Sharon is mixing his messages. In response to two painful Palestinian hits on Israeli military targets in the West Bank and Gaza, Sharon's army pounded Palestinian targets for two days last week and fired a missile directly into the Ramallah compound where Yasser Arafat remains under virtual house arrest. And in a speech to the nation on Thursday he vowed to build "buffer zones to achieve security separation" between Israelis and Palestinians. But a day later he ordered his army to avoid initiating military action in the West Bank and Gaza for seven days, following a deal brokered with Palestinian security chiefs. And his security cabinet meets Sunday to discuss lifting the travel ban on the Palestinian leader, after three men wanted for the killing of an Israeli cabinet minister were arrested on Arafat's orders.

but what i like about channel 2 are their soap operas and drama programs. their soaps used to be dyologs but the kristine jerico starrer pangako sa yo made me glued on tv while having my dinner. oh..maalaala mo kaya i think is one of the gems of philippine tv; i've never missed a single episode since it's inception ten years ago. this tv drama is a star vehicle for new comers who want to be noticed not only by the producers but also by the critics as well. have you seen last week's show? man, i cried buckets of tears at the end of the show. aiza seguerra is really a talented actress, she can sing and can also hit your hearts with her dramatic prowess.

i've never liked abs-cbn's news and current affair programs. compared to gma-7's, they looked moronic. it seems to me that channel 2 may have the charisma to attract wider audiences but what they lacked in are the talents who are capable of coming up with astig docus and real time reports. babao, bersola, tulfo and etc - these people are a bunch of goodloking but mediocre journalists. they haven't proven themselves internationally. it's a pity that though abs has the most up to date equipment, it still fails in comparison when it comes to news reporting and producing docus. i've always thought that it was che-che lazaro who is the main force behind the success of gma7- peabody,ny tv fest, cnn world report, asian tv awards; she's like the first lady of philippine broadcasting ala christianne amanpour of cnn whom i consider as the best female journalist in the world. since channel 2 has the moolahs to pirate talents, karen davila and the other cheche protege moved in to their neighbor station in panay.

i've been writing since gradeschool but i had this sort of comatose stage : when i entered college. i took up a course which is 5 galaxies away from my real interest. now i'm considering a career shift. i'm still giving myself 2 years with my present work - serving corporate america, sort of. this summer i'll be enrolling myself in a writing workshop to be conducted by armando lao. i might work in a telemovie too and a feature film as a production assistant. i know this one is a very tough decision but what in my heart right now is to fulfill my long time dream : to be a writer and a filmmaker. it's good that there are still some generous masters out there who are very willing to train and fine tune my artistic neurons.
whenever i'm bored, i would do mental story board of my dream film with real actors in my mind. there are times that i would find myself shedding tears as i reach the climax of a light melodrama that i want put into reel. i'm excited. my creative juices are now raring to be mentally and artistically ejaculated. i want to spend the remaining years of my life making films.

...What gets me about D.B., though, he hated the war so much, and yet he got me to read this book A Farewell to Arms last summer. He said it was so terrific. That's what I can't understand. It had this guy in it named Lieutenant Henry that was supposed to be a nice guy and all. I don't see how D.B. could hate the Army and war and all so much and still like a phony like that. I mean, for instance, I don't see how he could like a phony like that and still like that one by Ring Lardner, or that other one he's so crazy about, The Great Gatsby. D.B. got sore when I said that, and said I was too young and all to appreciate it, but I don't think so. I told him I liked Ring Lardner and The Great Gatsby and all. I did, too. I was crazy about The Great Gatsby. Old Gatsby. Old sport. That killed me. Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will.

Lav Diaz' Hesus Rebolusyonaryo is a must see for cineastes out there. Again, he came up with another opus which will dare you to think and hit your inner senses pointblank. Diaz doesn't run out of new ideas. It's a love it or hate it film. Mark Anthony Fernandez gave a very powerful performance as a vigilant poet. Donita deglamourized herself as the blind love interest of Mark. The supporting cast was also great. Cinematography is A-rate. Watch it. Watch it.

my reply

hey jenica..u don't belong here...this thread is for broadminded people and intelligent ones..

urian is a group of sensible film critics who absolutely know what they're doing. why are you questioning priscilla almeda's nomination (di ba she's from sutla?..fuuckk)? have u seen batang westside? if not, better watch it and see for yourself why almeda got the nod. though caridad sanchez performed well in bagong buwan, priscilla's westside role is the biggest breakthrough that happen in philippine cinema last year. she just floored me and those 500+ real movie buffs who endured lav diaz' 5 hour opus.
you're a dimwit. just because almeda starred in a sexy movie, will that disqualify her from being nominated?

why joey reyes has two films nominated? for chrissake..because he did two great films. minsan may isang puso was not widely released last year but i was one of the lucky few who saw it. this movie is a little gem made in the mold of his sugatang puso and jeff jeturian's sana pag-ibig na.

tuhog was made the best picture last year because compared to tanging yaman, the latter looks moronic - artistically . jeff's opus has been invited by major film fests abroad but guillen's was only invited once and a minor film fest at that.

---------------------

my bets :

best picture : batang westside
best director : lav diaz for BW
best screenplay : lav diaz for BW
best actor : joel torre for BW
best actress : jacklyn jose or rosanna roces (man! they're both good)
best supporting actor : jiro manio or raul arellano
best supporting actress : gloria diaz or priscilla almeda
-------------------------

my only question is : what the hell diether is doing in that list?

her post
Gosh, what an oversight on the part of the Urian!

Why didn't they nominate Marilou Abaya and her film Bagong Buwan?

I mean, Live Show over Bagong Buwan? Hubog, over Bagong Buwan?

Priscilla Almeda (di ba she's the one in Sutla, ugh!) got nominated over Caridad Sanchez (Bagong Buwan) in the best supporting category?

And what's this movie Minsan May Isang Puso? Why two movies of Joey Reyes?

Is this political, or what? Sabagay, this is also the same group that made Laurice Guillen best director last year pero naman the best picture was Tuhog, grabe!

I don't mean to sound offensive, but baka the Urian talaga is pro-gay. Like you have to be a gay director for your films to get noticed by them.

fuck diether

hey..one of the most stupid young stars in the philippines got a nod from Urian. yeah..diether 'the mumbler wannabee actor ' was nominated for best actor for his perfromance in Chito Rono's La Vida Rosa. my left brain is now having a hard time remembering if diether's acting hit my senses when i watched La Vida Rosa last year. what's up Urian? is this another deo edrinal masterminded conspiracy? when rono's movie was released last year, news articles praising ocampo's acting were splattered on all daily sheets. hey diether..how many night did u spend distributing your milk of human kindness?

i hate it..

it pisses me off. it makes my blood surges to 140 whenever some people rile their hypocrisy and bigotry on others. again, some moral terrorists branded joel lamangan, joey reyes, carlos siguion reyna as sickos - because of the movies that they made depicting the ill stuffs of our society. sadly, there are a lot of filipinos out there who are still blind that we live in a society so sick and rotten to the core, thy rather be oblivious and spend the rest of their lives making and dreaming utopic images. they would blame that the liberals are the one responsible for sinking our society down the drain. did their narrowminded neurons think that because of their refusal to accept the changes and sticking to traditional norms made us stagnant and be left behind?
i pity them. i pity them because they refuse to admit that there's a jungle out there outside the external perimeters of Villa San Miguel and those catholic schools. grow up...face the world.
